Completing the form P85 when you emigrate
Written by Administrator
When you emigrate or leave the UK you will usually complete the form P85. This is the form that the Revenue will send to you if you inform them you're moving overseas. Although strictly speaking your residence status is another entry on your tax return, in practice they'll use this form as a preliminary assessment of your UK tax position. It's therefore important that you know how your answers to the various questions will be viewed and what impact they could have. This article goes through the questions and explains simply how your responses will be interpreted.
